Back to black? The ‘velvety prism’ of Valentino Uomo Edition Noire…

Sometimes the absence of colour is the most dramatic statement of all, and let’s face it – a summer which consisted entirely of ‘oceanic splashes’ for guys (or anyone looking for a more smouldering summer fragrance) in nautical-themed flacons would begin to be a little dull.

Created by Olivier Polge, the Valentino Uomo Edition Noire is anything but boring – opening with accords of zesty bergamot and a surprising hit of spice; gently fondled by the note of myrtle before racy notes of coffee and gianduja cream kick in to entice you further still. The all-enveloping soft musky hint of white leather swirls around the majestic cedar and woody accords to a long-lasting and satisfyingly smoky finish.

Valentino say: ‘Black: the most colorful of non-colors. A deliberate, powerful, absolute refusal of any hue, favored by artist and creators across time because of its strength, mystery and spell… By refusing light, it takes everything to another dimension. The Valentino Uomo bottle turns into a tactile totem in this new edition: a velvety prism that catches shadows with uttermost subtleness, delineating a clear, powerful figure, topped off by the black mark of a pure ring. The bottle is now a magnet: it attracts and intrigues with its spiky mystery and dangerously sensual elegance…’
Is it just us, or is it getting a bit steamy in here…?

We think you might need to re-set the aircon or reach for your fans if this dramatic limited edition wafts its way into your life this summer. The heat is on (well, it’s sort of getting there – we’ve left our tights AND cardigans off, people) so with deeply, darkly mysterious fragrances like this around, we had better try and cool ourselves down somehow. Seriously great bottle, too.
