THE SCENT OF A MAN DISCOVERY BOX: Miller Harris Vetiver Insolent

Top notes: Italian bergamot, black pepper, elemi, Indian cardamom
Heart notes: iris, lavandin, crisp amber
Base notes: Haitian vetiver, tonka bean, moss

Intensely beguiling from the get-go, this is a deeply woody fragrance that’s tenaciously adventurous while comfortingly grounding – think of exploring a shady forest just as the sun sets and the animals come out to hunt and you’ll have an idea of the mossy, herbaceous background to what happens to be one of the sexiest, smouldering and evocatively earthy fragrances we’ve sniffed for some time.

Whereas many supposedly vetiver-centric scents shy away from the rugged earthiness of the note – there’s no fear of shyness in this thrillingly enticing blend, which is smoothed to perfection and lasts well until the morning after the night before…

It was composed in Grasse by the talented young perfumer Mathieu Nardin – though the history of Miller Harris is a proudly British affair. Vetiver Insolent is the fourth in the ‘Editions’ collection of fragrances Miller Harris asked Nardin to create for them – all of them having been ‘inspired by powerful and unexpected moments in life…’
