It’s All A Bit Nuts – Well, Pistachio

Pistachio as a note is not new, but has become perfumery’s most irresistible obsession. After years dominated by syrupy vanilla and caramel gourmands, fragrance houses are turning towards something creamier, greener and infinitely more sophisticated: the softly toasted allure of pistachio. It still delivers comfort and indulgence, but with a textured nuttiness that feels distinctly more grown-up. Beauty editors and perfumers alike are already calling pistachio one of the defining fragrance notes of 2026.

Part of the appeal lies in pistachio’s versatility. It can feel silky and dessert-like, but also woody, aromatic or even subtly salty. In other words, it gives gourmand lovers something less obvious than cupcake vanilla. On fragrance forums, enthusiasts describe the best pistachio scents as “mouthwatering without feeling like dessert” — exactly the balance modern consumers are craving.

Among the fragrances of the movement is New Notes Latte Pistachio, which wraps the note in a creamy café-style haze. Rather than shouting “gelato”, it leans softly lactonic and comforting, like pistachio folded into steamed milk. Meanwhile, M. Micallef Pistachio Chic takes a more opulent route, pairing whipped cream and pear with rum, chestnut and marshmallow for a decadent oriental-vanilla effect.

Then there’s Alexandre.J Sweet Enigma, another sign that niche perfumery is embracing pistachio’s sensual side. Here, the nutty creaminess is heightened with ambered woods and confectionary warmth, reinforcing the wider shift towards “textural” gourmands rather than overtly sugary scents.

And the trend shows no sign of slowing down. DKNY is preparing to launch Be Delicious Latte Pistachio, blending toasted pistachio with café latte, vanilla orchid and marshmallow. Mugler has unveiled Starlicious Pistachio Praline, pairing pistachio with caramel and patchouli for a richer, more sensual interpretation. And industry whispers suggest Valentino is also exploring pistachio territory in an upcoming gourmand direction.

For now, pistachio feels like the perfect olfactory mood for this moment: comforting yet polished, delicious yet unexpectedly chic.

Experimental Perfume Club Pistachio Haiku is pistachio for grown-ups: green, woody and softly creamy rather than sugar-spun. Fig leaf and hazelnut lend a windswept Mediterranean feel, while cedarwood and vetiver keep the gourmand facets beautifully restrained, elegant and quietly addictive.

Penhaligon’s Fortuitous Finley turns pistachio unexpectedly aristocratic: salted, green and softly spiced against supple leather and violet leaf. There’s something wonderfully eccentric about its creamy-yet-saddle-worn character — like a gourmand scent galloping through an English country estate in polished riding boots.

Granado Tropicália captures pistachio at its most intriguing: earthy, peppery and faintly tropical rather than dessert-sweet. Carrot seed and iris give the creamy nuttiness a velvety, almost suede-like texture, while amber and frankincense create a warm, sunlit haze that feels unmistakably Brazilian.

Ataratma Chakra Champaca feels like sunlight filtered through silk: creamy white florals drenched in citrus, then softened by an unexpectedly elegant pistachio accord. Champaka, neroli and tuberose create a narcotic warmth, while the green nuttiness keeps everything luminous, modern and quietly addictive.

BDK Velvet Tonka Extrait transforms pistachio into something darkly seductive: roasted nuts, cinnamon and tonka wrapped in saffiano leather and tobacco. Rich yet surprisingly refined, it feels like wandering through a Parisian pâtisserie at midnight, trailing velvet, amber and the faintest whisper of smoke.

[Pistachio]: Ataratma Chakra Champaca

Caroline Dumur channels the energy of the sacral chakra, crafting a nutty white floriental with a vibrant twist. Orange flower absolute, neroli and ylang ylang create an utterly intoxicating heart, crowned by an irresistible pistachio accord that adds a subtle green nuttiness and uplifting texture. Fruity florals and sparkling citrus oils swirl alongside champaka, playing on purity and joy while pistachio lends plushness and intrigue, as dazzling as spiritual energy itself.

[Sesame]: Experimental Perfume Club Tonka Sesame

Okay, look…neither sesame OR tonka are, technically, nuts (seeds, y’see?) but they happen to be two of the most intensely nutty notes in perfumery (and people allergic to nuts can also be triggered by them); so, we’re including this in our nutty guide, notwithstanding. Whirling nutty green hazelnut and creamy almond around sesame, sweetened slightly by velvety tonka; heliotrope lends a floral, marzipan-like lift, while earthy patchouli and cedarwood add just the right grounding touch. The scent is golden, toasted, and utterly moreish. Addictively nutty in the best way. ‘Nuff said.

[Hazelnut]: Devotion EDP Intense

Well golly, Olivier Cresp didn’t have to do anything to convince us that he is the ultimate master of the gourmand – but here’s yet more evidence, as he confects a more powerful version of Devotion, dusting the original orange blossom and mouthwatering vanilla notes with gloriously roasted hazelnut. And as before, the bottle is the very embodiment of glamour, emblazoned with D&G’s signature Sacred Heart symbol. Nothing ‘demure and mindful’ about this, we’re pleased to note!

[Almond]: Thursday Marzi

A joyfully nutty homage to marzipan, you cannot help but picture a traditional Battenberg cake, with its pretty pastel squares and squidgy almond layer. Starting off with an almost photorealistic hit of bitter almond, it’s soon softened by clouds of vanilla and brown sugar. Carnation adds a subtle, spicy warmth, while musk lends a gentle, comforting finish. Marzi is a scent that wraps the wearer in the happy memories of tea times past, so perfect for grey, chilly days ahead, bringing a nostalgic smile with every spritz.

THAMEEN Bravi

What if the diva lost her voice and needed this nut-powered power perfume to regain her bravado? This was the starting point for the third of Thameen’s ‘Britologne’ series, overseen by Christopher Chong’s infectiously passionate creativity, and realised by Bruno Jovanovic’s brilliance. Adding aphrodisiac ginger’s tingle to decadent tuberose, seducing with wild honey, and weaving the wonderfully smoky toasty-ness of walnut throughout, this packs a punch like a splintered crystal goblet smothered in velvet. Encore!
