Here’s a date for your diary: next summer, we plan a Perfume Society outing to view the Mitchell & Peach lavender fields, which are reviving the Kentish lavender-growing tradition on a fifth generation farm just outside Sevenoaks. The fields of mauve are currently the eighth wonder of the world for commuters looking out of the window as the train whizzes past these fragrant rolling fields.
For now, enjoy the scent of that lavender – alongside rose and sweet violet – in this beautiful white bone china candle from ceramicist Polly George. Each one’s subtly different (they’re hand-made), and features hand-poured wax, with an impressive burn time of up to 40 hours.
The Butterfly Candle’s launch coincides with the creation of a new wild flower meadow at Foxbury Farm, where Mitchell & Peach is based, featuring nectarous plants to attract bees and butterflies.
It’s a litlte piece of English countryside, in scented candle form – and couldn’t be prettier.
And see you in Kent, sometime in June next year, for a lavender lovefest?
