We’ve been long fans of perfumer Emmanuelle Moeglin, who started the Experimental Perfume Club in 2016, developing workshops for scent lovers to mix, conjure and create their own bespoke fragrances. And now you can too! This divine Discovery Set features SIX NICHE FRAGRANCES to layer, explore and learn.

Each fabulous eau de parfum is either a TOP LAYER, MID LAYER or BASE LAYER. You can wear alone, or layer to create your perfect bespoke fragrance. Combinations are almost endless, but cards within each box offer inspirations to start to your SCENT EXPERIMENTS. Will you mix bright Bergamot / Incense with Jasmine / Osmanthus or mouth watering Rose / Rhubarb with earthy Amber / Iris…?

A bergamot full of complexities. This brings out all the facets of this radiant citrus fruit via contrasting ingredients, with frankincense and olibanum bolstering the dry warmth and slight smokiness of incense oil. Juniper berry plays to its bright, zingy nature, with a tingle to the nose. Tea notes and a supple iris absolute calm and soothe. X

A garden combined, green leaves and dark woods – the brightness of neroli counteracted by the lush woodiness of fig leaves and vetiver. Basil, petitgrain and figs echo the scrunch of green grass. Ripe figs soothes the green vegetal herbs. Sparkling petitgrain paired with invigorating peppermint. A base of cedarwood and soft benzoin transform this into a scent to nuzzle into. X

Solar facets of jasmine sambac – warm nights and exotic flower bushes. Paired with osmanthus, with its delicate apricot and tea notes, it becomes velvety. Tiaré flowers and frangipani blossoms, radiant, creamy and coconut-laced, give the effect of sand-coated skin, warmed by the sun, on lazy beach days. X

A bright rose entwined with sharp blackcurrant and sparkling, zingy rhubarb. Aqueous peonies add dewiness, while blackcurrants expose its greenness. Petals, stalks and stems: this is a nose in a rosebush. Rich, jam-laced Moroccan rose absolute adds depth, for a scent that sparks a child-like joy within. X

BASE NOTES: vanilla, patchouli, Ambroxan, ambrette seed

A smoky, smooth incense pierces through rich, resinous myrrh. The subtle, hushed powderiness of orris contrasts with the warm, balsamic facets of labdanum, with syrupy vanilla poured over patchouli for a chocolate-y accord that soothes in the background. Ultimately, a blanket of ambroxan and ambrette seed renders everything soft. X

A soft, creamy sandalwood pierced with light, shining in the dark, enhancing the darker woods, while animalic, addictive, leather suede accentuates sandalwood's deeper qualities. A surge of vibration from spicy pink peppercorn lifts you from the depths, while gentle, blanket-like Ambroxan envelops you. X

In 2016, with a desire to demystify the often confusing (and still quite closed) world of perfumery, Emmanuelle Moeglin started the Experimental Perfume Club – a small but airy studio in London Fields, where she first developed workshops to help people understand scent better. And now you can join in too, with this wonderful layering set – just mix and learn to your heart’s content. Fig / Neroli – Top Layer  – the crunch of fresh herbs in a Mediterranean garden in bloom.

Jasmine / Osmanthus – Mid Layer – a tribute to white flowers growing on hot sand. Radiant, floral and exotic.

Rose / Rhubarb – Mid Layer – imagine rose bushes growing from a rhubarb patch.

Amber / Iris – Base Layer – an amber wrapped in powdery notes; dark yet soft.

Sandalwood / Musk – Base Layer – mineral sandalwood met with leather and musks. Mineral, woody and addictive.
