Pioneering Scottish perfumery where wild landscapes meet innovative compositions, perfumer Euan McCall crafts with uncompromising authenticity and creative freedom…

A distinctly Scottish fragrance house founded in 2019 by Scottish perfumer Euan McCall and partner and designer Chloe Mullen. With keen sensibility for innovative compositions rooted in the tradition of classical fragrance, Edinburgh-based Jorum Studio offers an ever-evolving perspective on modern luxury fragrance.
What began as a perfume laboratory over a decade ago has blossomed into one of Scotland’s most evocative fragrance houses, with each scent capturing the wild beauty and poetic soul of the Scottish landscape. Jorum Studio invites you to wander through deepest, darkest Scottish forests, treacherous wild rose gardens, and lavender-dusted libraries through their collection of meticulously crafted fragrances.
Euan McCall’s journey into the world of scent began in childhood, surrounded by the bountiful fragrances of nature in his grandparents’ gardening business and influenced by his grandmother’s perfume obsession. “Fragrances in nature were abundant growing up,” Euan recalls, “but I wasn’t aware of the perfume industry until around the age of 8 when we went on a holiday to Grasse. It was at this point where perfumery as a lifelong pursuit came into focus.”
With no clear career path to becoming a perfumer in Scotland, Euan nonetheless possessed a remarkable natural talent – the ability to identify aromas with uncanny precision and recognise fragrances from a distance, a party trick that hinted at his future calling. Rather than pursuing formal training through a chemistry degree or perfumery school, Euan chose a self-directed study route, working alongside as many perfumers as possible, including informal training with a perfumer based in the Scottish Highlands.
In 2009, Euan established Jorum Laboratories, working as a freelance perfumer and consultant, formulating and manufacturing fragrances for clients worldwide. A decade of experience later, he launched Jorum Studio with his partner Chloe Mullen, creating a brand that would showcase not only his perfumery talents but also establish Scotland as a serious contender in the global fragrance industry.
“Not only being perfumer-led but designing and manufacturing all products in-house means that we can be incredibly creative and authentic with the products we create,” explains Euan. “In an industry that feels like it is becoming more risk-averse and homogenised, being more inclined to take risks and push boundaries sets Jorum Studio apart.”

This independence gives Jorum Studio complete creative freedom – there are no limitations when every aspect of production happens under one roof. “We have zero constraints and
make everything obsessively in-house,” Euan notes. “We strive to always create newness which is harder than it sounds. The possibilities are endless in perfumery however introducing something new and its adoption is difficult and comes with added risk. We aim to create wearable fragrances that add something new to the conversation.”
The cornerstone of each Jorum Studio fragrance is a life lived in Scotland – past and present, landscape and culture, memory and reality. The team spends countless hours walking through woodland, over peat bogs and along harsh coastlines, gathering native scent references which are then reflected in their original compositions. Even when inspiration or materials come from further afield, the Scottish identity remains woven into every creation.
Their collections explore different themes in depth, with each fragrance telling its own story. The Scottish Odyssey collection, for instance, includes fragrances like Rose Highland, inspired by Buachaille Etive Mor in Glencoe, where a flinty, thorny and saline rose character is enhanced with delicate touches of clove, sweet basil, heather and oak. Healing Berry, another standout from the collection, draws inspiration from the Valley of Strathmore, weaving anise-toned artemisia with tangy blackcurrant, minted rose, and jammy raspberry leaf into a sophisticated Celtic fairytale.
The brand’s growth has been organic but impressive, doubling each year as they enter new markets.
“There was no perfumery industry in Scotland before 2009,” Euan points out, “so having no legacy infrastructure has made the journey all the more difficult, however we have and continue to succeed in showcasing that a world-class perfumery industry can and is being built in Scotland.”
With a small but talented team set to grow from 7 to 11 members in 2025, Jorum Studio is not just creating exceptional fragrances but building an entire industry from scratch in
Scotland. Their focus on quality, craft and innovation has established them as pioneers in Scottish perfumery, inviting fragrance lovers worldwide to experience the wild beauty of Scotland through their evocative scents.
At The Perfume Society, we feel that what makes Jorum Studio truly exceptional is their unwavering commitment to authentic Scottish perfumery – creating an entire industry celebrating their heritage, but with distinctly modern interpretations. Their fragrances offer a sensory journey through Scotland’s wild landscapes, from misty peat bogs to thorny rose gardens, all crafted with meticulous attention by perfumer Euan McCall. By handling every aspect of production, they maintain complete artistic freedom to forge a distinct path in an industry increasingly uniform. For those seeking fragrances that tell evocative stories, capture nature’s raw beauty, and offer something genuinely new to the olfactory conversation, Jorum Studio’s innovative yet wearable creations deserve your full attention. Where will you begin your own journey through Jorum’s evocative smellscapes, we wonder…?
