Brunello Cucinelli stands as a testament to Italian excellence, quiet luxury and an unwavering devotion to the beauty of craftsmanship. But to really know the house of Cucinelli, one must get to know the man behind it; and his ethos, which infuses every single stitch, and now every scented creation too…

Cucinelli’s journey began in 1978, the self-made visionary and ‘guardian, a ferryman between the past and the future’, determined to profoundly transform both the experience of wearing and creating luxury garments and, now, fragrances. From a humble farming background in Castel Rigone, Cucinelli dreamt of products ‘gratifying for the wearers as for the workers who made them’, and set about restoring dignity to artisanal work, imbuing new colour into women’s cashmere sweaters. There was resistance at first – ‘You’re crazy to dye cashmere in these colours’, he was told – but with persuasive optimism and a little luck, his daring idea flourished, and coloured cashmere became a new icon for Italian style.
At the heart of this remarkable brand is Solomeo, a picturesque medieval Umbrian hamlet Cucinelli lovingly restored – turning a once-neglected castle into a beacon of craft, beauty and ethical purpose. Many a founders recite their guiding principle, but for Cucinelli it’s lived and breathed lived every day in the gentle rhythms of village life, the importance of family, and a material understanding. He explains this by saying: ‘To do something special you have to focus on a single project that is your lifelong dream.’ This project is not really about the aesthetics of luxury, but about respect for nature and people, sustainability and honour. For Cucinelli, it must be ‘based on ethics, dignity and morality… trying to give form to the fascinating relationship between profit and giving back.’

Quiet luxury – often whispered about in refined fashion circles and lending its understated hush to the world of fragrance – comes to the fore in the elegantly sculpted bottles of the house’s olfactory offerings, their clarity of Italian glass gleaming like the honeyed stone archways of Solomeo. In 2023, the debut fragrances, Pour Homme and Pour Femme, distilled the essence of Cucinelli’s understated style – contemporary, elegant, with notes that sparkle and meld seamlessly. Pour Homme opens with glints of Calabrian bergamot and lemon, sparked by aromatic woods and subtle spiciness, before settling into a dry down that balances amber and smoky patchouli in a very warm, addictive trail. Pour Femme is lauded for its smooth sophistication, exuding bright powdery freshness with a gentle persistence on the skin, an intimate aura for those who cherish the soft-spoken allure of luxury.
The Incanti Poetici collection, launched in 2025, marked a new, literary turn in Cucinelli’s scented chapter. This suite of six highly concentrated artistic perfumes – each inspired by a classic Italian poem – is crafted in collaboration with a constellation of world-class perfumers: Daphné Bugey, Olivier Cresp, Alberto Morillas, Florian Gallo, Quentin Bisch, Jordi Fernández, and Benoist Lapouza. Evolving from the emotional power of words, each fragrance is an ode to beauty transformed into invisible poetry, embodying a nuanced thread of narrative elegance.
Vie Eteree, for example, was inspired by Leopardi’s ‘L’Infinito’, and in liquid form becomes a contemplative fragrant journey buoyed by green Calabrian bergamot, the sparkle of citron, aromatic basil, and cardamom’s vibrancy. Like an ethereal path suspended between heavens and earth, it invites the imagination to sweep toward infinite horizons. Soffio Zenit captures the Mediterranean sun: sweet fig, lavender and rosemary, uplifted and anchored by balsamic labdanum. Sogno Notturno, conversely, slips into shadowed dreamland, osmanthus and cumin glimmering with precious reminiscences that surrender to visions in silence. Brezza Gentile brightens the scene via a gentle breeze that caresses the soul, awakening senses with bitter orange, enfolding patchouli and amber in a glorious, golden embrace. Ombra Lirica delves deeper again, conjuring timeless secrets, the smoky resonance of oudh and guaiac wood dancing in harmony in a reverent nod to distant histories. While Vento Ardente thrums with sizzling spices – merging warm, rich leather with saffron’s fire, it leaves behind a powerful presence.
Furthering the Incanti Poetici story, three new compositions extend this scented chapter, shaped with master perfumers Alberto Morillas and Jordi Fernández. Segreto casts a luminous veil of floral citrus, where Sicilian yellow mandarin and orange blossom glow against the softness of sandalwood and Siam benzoin. Silenzio is a quietly smouldering blend of woods and spice, weaving Italian bergamot, ylang ylang and cinnamon through a cocooning salted caramel accord. Ricordo, however, feels like a memory captured in petals and smoke, pairing coriander seeds with jasmine sambac absolute, creamy coconut and inky Indonesian patchouli. Simply sublime.

Each Cucinelli fragrance is an homage to the highest quality ingredients and the brand’s values, balancing innovation, craftsmanship, narrative artistry and respect for nature. ‘People must not only be respected in form, but most importantly in substance’, Cucinelli reminds us, and his creative philosophy runs through every scent, bottle, and production process. There is, always, we feel having gotten to know the house, a sense of custodianship, not just for tradition but for the future – an urging to restore not nostalgia, but authentic values in which ‘we find all the answers we are looking for in order to shape our future’. Fragrance here is seen as more another accessory; it represents a poetic echo, and more than that: a gentle but compelling statement of what luxury can and should become.
To spritz a scent from the house of Cucinelli is to connect with this lifelong dream – where fashion is the opposite of dandified and blinged-out; instead connecting with Cucinelli’s own profound humanity. There is, in every spray, the vision of a man who sees beauty as a duty, luxury as an ethical pursuit, and poetry – in all its forms – as the bridge between memory and possibility. Each one beckons with its timeless appeal, at once thoughtfully pared back and super-stylish, yet emotionally resonant. We think, having tried and delighted in the Bruno Cucinelli fragrances as we have, you’ll find yourself equally enraptured by this subtle yet sensual mastery of Italian style, where the art of living well is distilled into every detail…
