A very special event is to be hosted by Odette Toilette and The Perfume Society, inviting just 50 perfume lovers the chance to experience a once-in-a-lifetime tour through the stars of the Osmothèque fragrance archive – which is coming to London on Saturday 16th May 2015.
Housed in Versailles and adjoining one of the most prestigious perfumery schools in France, the Osmothèque (named after Osme, the Greek muse for scent) is the only destination of its kind in the world: a living archive dedicated to preserving great works of perfumery.
Simply put, this is the sole place to sample fragrances otherwise lost forever, painstakingly recreated to their original formulae by the archive’s team of perfumers or ‘osmocurators’ so that they may be kept for posterity. In their vaults can be found thousands of treasures in their original versions – kept cool and dark and brought out for research purposes.
Usually the only way to smell the Osmothèque’s archive is to book a private visit and travel all the way to Paris. But Odette Toilette and The Perfume Society are pleased to announce that for this very special event, the Osmothèque will come to us!
50 lucky attendees will be able to experience the Osmothèque in London at a special afternoon event housed in the beautiful Art Deco venue of the Crazy Coqs Lounge within Brasserie Zedel, Piccadilly.
After an afternoon tea-style lunch, Osmocurator Stephanie Bakouche will take us on a journey through some of the most coveted of fragrances dating from the birth of modern perfumery and the early 20th Century. The session will focus on the celebrated houses of Les Parfums de Rosine from Paul Poiret, Coty and Guerlain.
This is your chance to try the original Chypre, made as it was in 1917, and Shalimar circa 1921… With twenty five fragrances to smell in total, it’s one hell of a sniffathon! Stephanie will weave together the stories of the houses together with the technical accomplishments of each perfume and ther impact of the fragrance industry.
Best of all, the fragrances are supplied on blotters encased in cellophane sleeves so the scent will linger on after the event, to be re-sniffed in the days and weeks after.
Tickets for this event include:
– Glass of Crémant on arrival
– Refreshments from Brasserie Zedel of afternoon tea sandwiches and cakes
– Scent journey with the Osmothèque and twenty five perfumes on blotters to take home

– Please let us Odette know of any dietary requirements via this link and she’ll do our best to accommodate.
– Fragrances are to be sampled on card only, not on the skin (this is partly because some of them have been made to old formulae which used materials now understood to be irritants or allergens).
