Karen Gilbert, a truly inspiring teacher (and author of Perfume: The Art & Craft of Fragrance) is offering a one-day workshop on Saturday 7th March (from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.) for anyone who wants to learn hands-on how to make perfumes, and deepen their appreciation of this amazing art form.
By the end of the day – which is hosted at Les Senteurs, in London’s Marylebone – you will…
• Have an understanding of the historical significance of fragrance
• Have learned about the different ingredients used in perfumery
• Easily be able to classify aromatic ingredients into the different fragrance families
• Have practised blending top middle and base notes to create simple fragrance
Karen will lead you through the history of perfume, and introduce you to different ingredients and where they come from: the top, middle and base notes you can use to create magic. You’ll start to learn how to train your nose – and most importantly, there’s lots and lots of hands-on experience creating a fragrance of your own to take home, as you learn blending techniques.
This workshop is suitable for beginners or more advanced students – and it makes a fantastic gift for someone really special. (Of course, that could just be you.) As Karen explains, ‘All my classes are very in depth with lots of industry insider tips as well as lots and lots of hands on practical experience. Many students who have done classes with other teachers and are still stuck find that even after the 1 day class it all makes sense and falls into place. I tend to tailor each day to the experience level of the group so each class is a unique experience.’
You’ll leave with a lovely goodie bag from The Perfume Society, a signed copy of her book – and, we think, an even deeper passion for fragrance than before…
The workshop is priced £175 and is available to subscribers and non-subscribers of The Perfume Society.
NB This workshop is hosted in the downstairs training room at Les Senteurs and is therefore not suitable for wheelchairs.
