We didn’t know what to expect when Guerlain invited us for a ‘scented manicure’. (See below for the beautiful setting, and check out our Instagram for more pix of the stunning press event.)
And at first, you might think: ‘What’s all the fuss about?’ – because at first sniff after applying the La Petite Robe Noire polish, there’s the usual intense nail varnish chemical scent. (Not something you want to get your nostrils too close to, at that point.)
But give it an hour or two and something happens. Gradually, the traditional acetone-esque smell dissipates, and little traces of Guerlain‘s globally bestselling gourmand scent creep in. And stay there, for up to 24 hours.
Add a coat of top coat, at that point, and you’ll get delicious little sweet wafts for another day or so. (In addition to the Top Coat, there’s a Base Coat – and eight shades, in all, of which our favourite has turned out to be the deep, shimmering burgundy-purple Black Perfecto.)
The finish is super-shiny and lasts impressively well. So all in all, this is a little bit of fun, a little bit of a frivolity – and a fun way to show your finger’s on the fragrant fashion pulse.
And if you look like a weirdo, smelling your manicure on the bus or Tube? Not our fault.
