EAUX LA LA DISCOVERY BOX: Carven Ma Griffe

FRAGRANCE FAMILY: CHYPRE

An original Chypre floral, Carven’s Ma Griffe, is like a piece of history that’s bounded forward into the modern day. Still as iconic as its 1946 original, still as fresh and powdery, it is the softest of Chypres.

At first it bursts with bergamot, lemon and gardenia, whilst the heart hosts an abundance of jasmine, on a backdrop of sandalwood, rose and ylang ylang. The base settles woodsily with vetiver and musk, tonka bean (minus that note’s usual sweetness) and styrax.

For the launch of Ma Griffe (it means ‘My Signature’) in 1946, Madame Carven made a statement that would be forever ingrained in Parisian history, when she dropped hundreds of tiny striped parachutes from the skies, all holding a vial sample of Ma Griffe. Of course, this meant it was worn by many and remembered by all.

Encased in a box covered with green and white stripes (just like Madame Carven’s iconic signature dress), Ma Griffe evokes images of well-dressed women, and stylish silhouettes. Whilst retaining the softness and femininity of a mother’s embrace.
Truly, a scent to transcend time with.
