Donna Karan’s love of the Big Apple is often the inspiration behind her fragrances. Take DKNY Be Delicious for instance, which in olfactory terms is pretty much the succulent scent of New York distilled into perfume. But DKNY My NY is a little different. You see, even the heart shaped flacon was designed with the contemporary urban spirit of the city (and its many skyscrapers) in mind.
Fronted by pop beauty Rita Ora who describes the scent as ‘pure energy in a bottle’, the chypre floral was created by perfumer Trudi Loren and features green top notes of raspberry, galbanum and pink pepper. These crisp accords are layered with a floral heart of Egyptian jasmine, freesia and roots of orris followed by a base of woody patchouli, creamy vanilla absolute, ambergris and musk.
‘Rita’s a great representative of DKNY. She’s full of life, she’s about what everyone wants to feel – energy,’ explained Donna Karan to WWD. ‘She’s like this Energizer bunny who can wear anything from track shoes to stilettos, DKNY to Donna Karan. I love the girl as a person, too. She walks the talk.’
