Breaking news: Christian Louboutin strides into the world of perfume with a debut trio of scents

We’ve never signed so many non-disclosure agreements in our lives as the last few months. A sign, perhaps, of how high the stakes are in perfume right now. Our lips remain sealed on several exciting Major Launches To Come.
But today we can rip off the Elastoplast and shout about this show-stopping new trio from Christian Louboutin, in quite extraordinary bottles designed by ‘garden bridge’ architect Thomas Heatherwick, no less: a serious feat of engineering offering with ombré shading and a cut-out centre, in the middle of the sculptural, twisted glass.
To quote the shoe designer: ‘I wanted to celebrate woman and her desires. I wanted these fragrances to enhance an aspect of her personality, or perhaps reveal something about her that no one knew before, maybe not even her, tell a secret, a story. In a way creating these fragrances is like being a film director, some directors want to control the acting process, others want to reveal the power of character and personality. This is what I try to evoke with shoes and now with the alchemy of fragrance. I want to give women the means to express themselves and to delight in their femininity.’
And, he explains, because there is ‘not one Louboutin woman’, there is not one fragrance. Here’s what you can discover, exclusively at Selfridges from today.
Bikini Questa Sera – rich, opulent white flowers, with decadent splashes of jasmine and tuberose. Love exotic florals? Try staying upright on your Louboutins after smelling this. (Deep amber and warm gold are the colours of this bottle.)
Tornade Blonde – roses, roses, roses – but on a bed of soft violet and slightly tart cassis. (Garnet segue-ing into light gold, this one.)
Trouble in Heaven – the darkest, most dangerous, fusing iris, tonka, patchouli. The ‘naughty girl’ option, we’d call it. (It’s the purple/gold bottle.)
Run, don’t walk, to Selfridges to smell them. (And you famously can, in his heels.)
